PCC to hold event in search for West Midlands-wide provider of Restorative Justice

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, is inviting service providers to express an interest in delivering a West Midlands wide Restorative Justice service.

Restorative Justice gives victims the chance to meet or communicate with their offenders to explain the real impact of the crime - it empowers victims by giving them a voice.

It also holds offenders to account for what they have done and helps them to take responsibility and make amends. Government research demonstrates that restorative justice provides an 85% victim satisfaction rate, and a 14% reduction in the frequency of reoffending.

In 2017/18 more than 250 people were directly supported by Restorative Justice in Birmingham and Coventry. Now, the Police and Crime Commissioner wants to expand this to the entirety of the West Midlands.

The core purpose of the service will be to provide Restorative Justice for victims of crime. The Service Provider must have experience of delivering Restorative Justice services and of working with people harmed by crime and those responsible for causing that harm. The PCC wants to ensure that high quality Restorative Justice is accessible to every victim of crime across the West Midlands, irrespective of the individual circumstances.

The PCC is looking to commission a service provider who will act as a single point of contact to ensure that the Restorative Justice service is effectively and efficiently delivered. The service will also seek to build awareness and understanding of Restorative Justice and its potential benefits amongst our partner agencies and the communities that we serve.

It is important to the Police and Crime Commissioner that the service must deliver high quality Restorative Justice to a nationally agreed standard.

The event will be held on Thursday 29 March 1pm - 6.00pm at:
