The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has begun his search for this year’s heroes of the West Midlands.

David Jamieson’s Outstanding Citizen Awards honour people who have gone above and beyond or are tireless community campaigners. Perhaps you know a dedicated volunteer? A young person who works to improve their community or someone who performed an incredible act of bravery? If so, your PCC wants to know about them too.

In all, there are three awards up for grabs: Outstanding Citizen, Outstanding Young Citizen and Outstanding Community Project.

Last year the Outstanding Citizen Award went to Sukhi Atwal who lost her 12 year old son – Amar – in 2015. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when he was thrown from a car and killed. Ever since Sukhi, from Great Barr, has campaigned to promote the use of seatbelts.

Talking ahead of the 4th Outstanding Citizen Awards the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, said: “This is our chance to say ‘thank you’ to those people who work to make the West Midlands a better place.

“Whether they are a long-standing community campaigner, someone who runs a worthwhile project or simply a member of the public who stepped up when the time called for it, nominate them now and ensure they get the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations for this year’s awards are now open and people have until April 9th to put someone forward. If you would like to nominate a local unsung hero and give them their moment in the spotlight then please visit the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s website and fill in the online form below. Alternatively, you can download a form from the right hand of this web page, fill it in and post it back to the address listed on the form.

The Awards ceremony will take place on 5th July.
