Ernie Hendricks
Board Member
Ernie
Hendricks
This is Ernie's second term as a member of the SPCB.
His work in public office began in 2006 when he was elected as a
Liberal Democrat councillor for Birmingham City Council. He
represented the ward of Moseley and Kings Heath for eight years.
During that time he served on the Public Protection, Planning and
Social Cohesion Scrutiny committees. He was also a member of
a number of external monitoring agencies, including West Midlands
Passenger Transport Authority and the former Police Authority,
where he served on the Personnel, Protective Services and the Local
Policing and Justice committees. He was the lead member for
Birmingham for two years reporting back to the City Council.
Ernie's responsibilities within the Office of the Police and
Crime Commissioner have included WMP 2020, a major change programme
that seeks to make better use of technology in everyday working
practices, and the Youth Employment Initiative, which connects
young reoffenders with job opportunities. He also sits on the Chief
Constable and Commissioner's Joint Audit Committee.
Ernie's interests extend into housing. He is currently
chair of the Homes Board for the Longhurst Group housing
association. The board represents the interests of the group's
organisations, which own and manage 18,500 homes in total across
the West Midlands.
