The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has welcomed West Midlands Mayor Andy Street’s comments ‘that the cuts have gone far enough.’

Responding to the comments, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson, said:
“This is a welcome and long overdue intervention.

“I look forward to Andy Street repeating the message in the conference hall to government ministers at the party conference this weekend.

“The independent National Audit Office highlighted that West Midlands Police has been hit more than twice as hard by the cuts than forces such as leafy, low crime Surrey.

“When the Chancellor delivers his budget on October 29th more funding for West Midlands Police needs to be included in it.”

In a recent interview, West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said:

“I do also think it is right to say that the cuts have gone far enough.

“It’s not reasonable to expect that this continues.

“It is right, what has been said by the Chief Constable and the PCC, that the settlement for the West Midlands has been less favourable than for other areas.

“I hope the Home Secretary is able to win the case for better investment for West Midlands Police.”
