Officers from West Midlands Police’s Professional Standards Department are investigating after a video of a police officer was posted on social media.

The constable is heard to make racial comments to a member of the public during a search of a premises in Coventry on 24 August.

The force received an official complaint and referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, said:
“This video is extremely disappointing and has understandably caused distress. It would appear to show a police officer acting in a way which is totally contrary with the values of West Midlands Police. I am reassured that the Chief Constable has taken swift action, including referring the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”
