Three West Midlands Police officers accused of lying at an inquest into the death of Kingsley Burrell have been cleared by a jury of perjury and perverting the course of justice.

The following is a statement from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson:

“Kingsley Burrell’s death was a tragedy.

The length of time the investigation has taken has added to the pain felt by Mr Burrell’s family and friends.

West Midlands Police and other agencies have made efforts to improve mental health services across the region, so that those suffering from mental ill health get the help they need.

Whilst criminal proceedings have concluded, the case is still with the Independent Police Complaints Commission regarding potential misconduct.
