AUDIT OF ACCOUNTS YEAR ENDED 31 March 2016

Notice has been given in accordance with section 15 of the Account and Audit Regulations 2015 that the accounts of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Midlands and Chief Constable of West Midlands Police are subject to external audit by Paul Grady, Engagement Lead for Grant Thornton UK LLP, Colmore Plaza, 20 Colmore Circus, Birmingham, West Midlands, B4 6AT. Members of the public and local government electors have certain rights in the audit process:

  1. From 20 June 2016 to 29 July 2016 between 9:30am and 16:00pm on weekdays (a period of 30 working days) any person interested may inspect and make copies of the accounts of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Midlands and the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police for the year ended 31 March 2016 and certain related documents comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts. The accounts and other documents will be available for inspection at the offices where they are normally kept, or otherwise by arrangement. Application should be made initially to Mr N Chamberlain – Head of Finance and Shared Services, West Midlands Police, 7th Floor, Centro House, Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD telephone 0121 626 5041. The accounts will also be available at www.west-midlands.police.uk and www.westmidlands-pcc.gov.uk

Please note that the general rights of inspection and making copies of documents are not unrestricted, and in particular they do not extend to inspection or copying of any documents containing personal information concerning a member of staff.

  1. From 9:30am on 20 June 2016 until 16:00pm on 29 July, a local government elector for the area of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Midlands and the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, or his/her representative, may ask the auditor questions about the accounts, or object to the  accounts of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Midlands and the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police asking that the auditor issues a report in the public interest (under section 8 of the Audit Commission Act 1998 and Section 27 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014) and/or apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law (under section 17 of the Audit Commission Act 1998). Written notice of a proposed objection and the grounds on which it is made must be sent to the auditor at the address given above and copied to the Chief Executive of the West Midlands Office for Policing and Crime at the address given below.
