West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson response to reports that the government is scrapping planned reforms to funding allocations for individual police forces.

“This news does not change £140 million cuts that West Midlands Police has faced since 2010 and the continued cuts we face. This year West Midlands Police received £6 million less from the government than the year before.

“Crime is changing, not falling and West Midlands Police is facing ever greater threats.

“I hope the government really does change course and make more resources available to local police forces.

“The current promise to protect the total policing budget does not protect individual forces like West Midlands Police and does not take account of inflation or the changing threat we face.”
