West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson and Chief Constable Dave Thompson have welcomed the official announcement that Birmingham will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said,

“This is exciting news for Birmingham and the whole of the West Midlands. I would like to congratulate Leader of Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward and his team for their excellent work on securing the games.

“We are already working closely with the games organisers to ensure that Birmingham 2022 is the safest possible games.

“A team has been assembled to plan security for the games and we are working closely with government too.

“Birmingham 2022 is set to be the best Commonwealth Games on record. West Midlands Police will play its part in making sure they are a safe and welcoming games too.”

Chief Constable Dave Thomson said,

“Today’s announcement is an absolutely fantastic achievement for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

“Full credit should go to everyone involved in putting together the bid, and to everyone in the city and beyond who backed it.

“West Midlands Police will ensure Birmingham 2022 is a safe and enjoyable spectacle for all who come to enjoy and take part in it.”
