West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, who has led the way in fairness with PCSO and Police Staff pay welcomes the announcement today by the Police Staff Council that PCSOs and Police Staff across England and Wales will receive the same pay settlement as Police Officers, which was announced by the Home Office last month.

David Jamieson, who announced that he would be paying the extra 1% on top of the 1% planned increase to all Police Officers, PCSOs and Police Staff last week said,

“I am glad that the Police Staff Council has listened to me with this announcement. Just like officers, staff and PCSOs play a hugely important role keeping us safe and deserve the same treatment. It was the right thing to do. I am please the Police Staff Council has followed the West Midlands’ lead.

“Emergency call handlers make life and death decisions, In the West Midlands we most certainly recognise the contribution all our staff make to keeping us safe. I am pleased that, nationally, staff and PCSOs are receiving that recognition too.

“That is why I announced, last week, that regardless of the Police Staff Council decision that, in West Midlands Police, all Police Officers, PCSOs and Police Staff would receive the same.

“I regret this announcement doesn’t mean pay will rise in line with inflation for staff, PCSOs and officers. I hope by the time of the budget, the government will have put the funding in place to top-up this increase to match inflation.”
