West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson today congratulated the area’s 28 Members of Parliament on their successful election campaigns.

PCC David Jamieson’s letter highlighted the significant funding challenge faced by West Midlands Police.

On this issue, PCC David Jamieson said:

“West Midlands Police lost £105,197,835 to their budget between 2010/11 and 2015/16. In real terms, West Midlands Police budget fell by £140,587,424 in that period.

“This means that we have 1,746 fewer officers and 585 fewer police staff than in 2010.

“Our police force is at risk of further cuts as the funding formula, the way in which funding is distributed between local police forces, is being reconfigured.

“It is important to understand that crime is changing, not falling. West Midlands Police is facing more complex threats than ever before and should receive the resources it needs to deal with those threats.

“If the new funding formula continues to be developed, I am hopeful that we can work together to stand up for fair funding on behalf of our constituents and our police force.”
