West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson today paid tribute to the recipients of the New Year’s Honours 2016.
Hardworking police staff, community volunteers and local councillors were among those honoured in the West Midlands.
The Commissioner congratulated all local recipients – whatever their respective fields – but paid particular thanks to those whose work has helped policing, crime prevention and community relations. Together, their efforts have made the West Midlands a safer place to live and work.
West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said: “It is wonderful to see so many people from all walks of life in the West Midlands honoured with these prestigious titles.
“From bobbies on the beat, such as former PC Ian Northcott, to dedicated community champions like Abdullah Rehman, their collective efforts are impressive and inspiring.
“I cannot think of a better way to start 2016 than congratulating those who worked tirelessly in 2015 and made our communities better and safer places to live and work.
“Well done to all those honoured and, on behalf of the people of the West Midlands, thank you for all you have done to make a difference.”
The Commissioner today paid tribute to OBE recipients:
- Tania Eagle, programme director, Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, for services to policing.
- David Clarke, former treasurer for Warwickshire and West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioners, for services to policing finance.
- Sarah Goodall, deputy director National Crime Agency, for services to law enforcement.
- Sandra Samuels, Wolverhampton councillor, for political service and services to local government.
Those given an MBE and praised by the Commissioner included:
- Michael Smith, founder of Word4Weapons, for services to the reduction of knife and gun crime.
- Aftab Chughtai, for services to business and community relations in Birmingham.
- Abdullah Rehman, Chief Executive Balsall Heath Forum, for services to the community.
- Heather Tobin, former Detective Inspector for West Midlands Police, for services to public protection in the West Midlands.
The Commissioner also praised British Empire Medal recipients:
- Bridget Cameron, for services to young people and the families of offenders in the West Midlands.
- Maureen Meehan, voluntary services to crime prevention in Birmingham.
- Ian Northcott, former West Midlands Police PC, for services to the community, particularly homeless people in the West Midlands.
- Councillor Habib Rehman, for services to business and community relations in Birmingham.
Mr Jamieson also praised Queen’s Police Medal honouree, Steve Craddock, former West Midlands Police Detective Superintendent.
